Lauderdale-by-the-Sea offers a living reef which can be found just 100 yards from shore, that makes for excellent snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as fishing, sunbathing, and swimming. 

For this reason, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea was proclaimed the diving Capitol of South Florida by the Broward County Board of Commissioners in 1997. 

Of course, all of the excitement of Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach is just a short drive away, complete with its trendy cafes and gift shops, boutiques, restaurants, jazz clubs and nightlife.
